Let's say that, for instance, a boss has 18000 HP in total, 3000 of which are reserved for a spellcard. The following are not accurate numbers, but: Maybe numbers will help convey what I'm trying to say. The white part of the bar actually is a lot more HP than the red part however, non-spells rarely last longer than spellcards (quite the opposite, usually), do they? That's why. Lyrica has the easiest non-spell but that spell looks like it'd screw me up a lot. even moreso than the spells of them together. All of their spells are pretty challenging. I checked out all three of the sisters' phases after their spell together (now that I know you can fight different people). I only recently realized that most of their patterns are actually non-spells.)Wait, you mean bombs do less damage during non-spells than to spells (for pre-PoFV games)? But well, Merlin's first non-spell was the only Prismriver non-spell that was really troubling, but I'm starting to clear it consistently now so I think I'm good. (.in fact, that also explains why I have so much more trouble with the Prismrivers than with most other Stage 4 bosses. On the Prismrivers in particular, when playing as Sakuya, I sometimes need three bombs to clear the non-spells I'm really terrible at. Also, using multiple bombs on non-spells you really can't deal with in the first three windows games is actually quite understandable - due to the way damage calculation in those three games works, bombs don't really do terribly much to bosses outside of spellcards.
